Gemini: usage limits and plans, explained
Short answer: Gemini Apps use compute-based limits, which depend on how complex your prompt is, the model and feature you use, and how long the chat is. Your limit refreshes every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit. Compared with free use, Google AI Plus gives 2x, Pro gives 4x, and Ultra gives 5x or 20x Pro's limits, depending on the tier. [1]

- Prices vary by country. For example, the Puerto Rico version of Google's page lists Plus at $7.99 and the 20x Ultra tier at $249.99. Check the page for your region. [2]
- Pro and Ultra include Gemini 4 Argon, in select countries. [2][3]
- Heavy features use more of your limit. Deep Research and video generation cost the most, and simple short chats cost very little. Long chats cost more because Gemini re-reads the history, so start a new chat for a new topic. [1]
What happens when you hit the limit
- With a Google AI plan, you can keep chatting on Flash-Lite. [1]
- If you hit the 5-hour or weekly limit, you can upgrade to a higher plan or wait for the refresh. [1]
- Gemini warns you when you're close. When you hit the limit, it tells you when it refreshes. [1]
- Check your usage: at gemini.google.com, go to Settings → Usage Limits (bottom left). [1]
- Google says limits may change without notice, for example when capacity is tight. Free users may be limited first. [1]
Not published: the actual size of the "standard" free limit (as a number of prompts or tokens), the size of the weekly limit, and the day or time the weekly limit resets. Google only publishes the multipliers. [1]
Work and school accounts
Business plans are Gemini Enterprise: Business edition starts at $21 per seat per month, and Standard/Plus start at $30 per seat per month with higher Gemini limits. This guide covers personal accounts. [2]
